“Most of us are familiar with renowned Swiss psychologist and psychiatrist, Carl G Jung, as the founder of analytic psychology, introvert and extrovert personality archetypes and the concept of the collective unconscious.  But what many do not know about Jung is that he was also something of a mystic. . .”

Is Ecstatic Mysticism only for a chosen few? . .  a thing of the past? How far “off our rockers” do we need to be to embrace truly mystical experiences - and how might they be useful to us now? Join us for an exploration of Mysticism and it’s potential relevance in our lives today.

The Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Castine, Maine, welcomes EVERYONE. Regardless of your religious affiliation, regardless of your sexual preference or identification, of your age or ancestry, your financial or political status:
YOU ARE ALWAYS INVITED.
No specific belief is required, other than that you be open and kind to others, whatever their path may be.

For my religious friends, you may find a sermon and discussions at a UU Church lacking in God-talk.  For others, you may find there is too much of it.
But know this:
WHATEVER is true for you, whatever you hold most sacred, or if you are questioning your beliefs, you are still and always WELCOME.

I hope to see you there, in body or virtually!
Much Love,
Maya

And if you are curious to learn a bit more. . .
There are jokes about Unitarian Universalists not knowing what they believe, some of which may offer a giggle . . . but contrary to not knowing, most UU's, while having individual experiences of their faith, have a deep commitment to their faith.  You might be curious to take a look at what we call THE 7 PRINCIPLES.
Here, for those who might be curious, are the 7 Principals at the center of Unitarian Universalism:

  1. 1st Principle: The inherent worth and dignity of every person;
  2. 2nd Principle: Justice, equity and compassion in human relations;
  3. 3rd Principle: Acceptance of one another and encouragement to spiritual growth in our congregations;
  4. 4th Principle: A free and responsible search for truth and meaning;
  5. 5th Principle: The right of conscience and the use of the democratic process within our congregations and in society at large;
  6. 6th Principle: The goal of world community with peace, liberty, and justice for all;
  7. 7th Principle: Respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part.
From the UU Association (https://www.uua.org/):  As Rev. Barbara Wellsten Hove explains, “The Principles are not dogma or doctrine, but rather a guide for those of us who choose to join and participate in Unitarian Universalist religious communities.”

Where many churches' source of spiritual guidance may be the Bible alone, UU's access spirituality from many sources.
Here are the SIX SOURCES UU congregations affirm and promote:
  • Direct experience of that transcending mystery and wonder, affirmed in all cultures, which moves us to a renewal of the spirit and an openness to the forces which create and uphold life;
  • Words and deeds of prophetic people which challenge us to confront powers and structures of evil with justice, compassion, and the transforming power of love;
  • Wisdom from the world's religions which inspires us in our ethical and spiritual life;
  • Jewish and Christian teachings which call us to respond to God's love by loving our neighbors as ourselves;
  • Humanist teachings which counsel us to heed the guidance of reason and the results of science, and warn us against idolatries of the mind and spirit;
  • Spiritual teachings of Earth-centered traditions which celebrate the sacred circle of life and instruct us to live in harmony with the rhythms of nature.
